Putrada Ekadashi 2025: Dates, Shubh Muhurat, and Importance of the Progeny Fast
Putrada Ekadashi 2025: In Hinduism, Putrada Ekadashi is a highly revered day dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The word “Putrada” literally translates to “giver of children,” and this fast is specifically observed by couples seeking the blessing of a child or for the long life and prosperity of their children.
There are two Putrada Ekadashis in a year: Pausha Putrada Ekadashi (December/January) and Shravana Putrada Ekadashi (July/August).
Why Celebrate Putrada Ekadashi?
The spiritual significance of this day is detailed in the Bhavishya Purana. It is believed that:
-
Blessing of Progeny: It is the primary fast for couples facing difficulties in conceiving or those wishing for a son (as per ancient texts).
-
Removal of Sins: Observing this fast helps in cleansing past karmic debts and sins.
-
Prosperity: It brings peace, happiness, and financial stability to the household.
-
Moksha: Like all Ekadashis, it is a path toward spiritual liberation and the feet of Lord Vishnu.
