Murudeshwar Relation with Ravana
According to mythology, when Ravana was doing penance to Lord Shiva to get the boon of immortality, Shiva pleased with his penance, gave him a Shivling, which is called ‘Atmalinga’ and said that if you want to be immortal So take it to Lanka and install it, but keep one thing in mind that wherever you keep it, it will be installed there.
According to Lord Shiva, Ravana was going towards Lanka with the Shivling, but in the middle of the way, he put the Shivling on the earth, due to which it got established there.
Enraged by this, Ravana tried to uproot and destroy the Linga and threw the broken pieces of the Shivling.
