Metro running under the river for the first time in the country
India’s First Underwater Metro: Kolkata Metro created history on Wednesday with the successful trial of the Metro under the Hooghly River. This is the first time in India that the metro ran in an underwater tunnel and its first underwater metro in India. During the trial, the metro ran in a tunnel built 32 meters under the river.
The length of the underground track of this metro service is 4.8 km. It will take 45 seconds to cross the tunnel under the river.
Once this track opens, Howrah metro station will become the deepest metro station in the country (32 meters below the surface).
At present, Hauz Khas station is the deepest station in the Delhi Metro, located at a depth of 29 meters.

When did the first metro run in the country
