Big blow to Uddhav Thackeray from the Election Commission! Eknath Shinde camp got the command of the real Shiv Sena, and the election symbol ‘arrow and bow’ was also found
There has been a major political reshuffle in Maharashtra. The Election Commission has put an end to the fight between Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde over the real Shiv Sena for nearly eight months. This decision of EC is a blow for the Uddhav Thackeray camp, while it is being seen as a victory for the Shinde camp. Because the commission recognized Eknath Shinde’s faction as the real Shiv Sena. Along with this, he has also been given the party’s election symbol ‘bow and arrow’.
After the rebellion in June, Eknath Shinde, with the support of the BJP, toppled the Mahavikas Aghadi government led by Uddhav Thackeray, taking along most of the party’s MLAs. Since then, both parties were fighting over the claim of the original Shiv Sena.
The Election Commission (EC) in its decision said that the constitution of Shiv Sena as amended in 2018 is not on record of the commission. The EC said that out of the 55 winning candidates of the Shiv Sena in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, about 76 percent of votes were cast in favor of the MLAs supporting Eknath Shinde.
The commission further said, “Whereas, in the 2019 elections in Maharashtra, 23.5 percent of the votes polled in favor of Shiv Sena’s winning candidates went to the MLAs of the Uddhav Thackeray faction.”
After the Election Commission’s decision, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “It is a victory for the ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray. The Commission recognized the Shinde faction as the real Shiv Sena.”
Chief Minister Shinde further said, “We formed the government in Maharashtra last year with the support of the BJP keeping in mind the ideas of Balasaheb.”
On the decision of the Election Commission, Uddhav faction leader Sanjay Raut said that there is no democracy left in the country. Everyone is sitting like a slave, this is the murder of democracy. He further said, “We expected such a decision. There is no trust in the Election Commission.”
Talking to the media, Sanjay Raut said, “This government has shed crores of rupees like water, it is visible how far that water has reached. We do not need to worry, because the public is with us. We are the new symbol.” Will take it and once again this Shiv Sena will stand up and show it.”
In its 78-page order after a long battle for control of the party, the Election Commission allowed the Uddhav Thackeray faction to keep the ‘torch’ election symbol till the completion of the assembly by-polls in the state.
